Tyson Fury press conference

Tyson Fury more than picked up the slack Tuesday when Deontay Wilder decided he did not want to answer questions at a press conference to promote the trilogy fight between the two men on July 24. Fury showed up at the press conference without a shirt and began his routine by congratulating Wilder on “finding Jesus.”

Tyson Fury told everyone listening that he was unfazed by Wilder’s promises of bloodshed. He characterized the former heavyweight champion’s words as “stuff we’ve all heard before.”

Deontay Wilder donned a pair of headphones after making his opening remarks. He did not speak anymore. Once Tyson Fury became aware that his opponent had gone quiet, he offered to answer questions for the both of them.

A tense exchange between Fury and Deontay Wilder’s new trainer, Malik Scott, began not too long into the press conference. Tyson Fury predicted that everything Wilder learned from Scott would be useless to him once the boxing match begins. Fury made things with Scott more personal when he said, “you can’t teach him to do something” you were unable to do. Fury spoke about sparring action between himself and Scott. The session resulted in a serious ear injury to Wilder’s new trainer.

Tyson Fury went on to say he would tell Wilder his game plan since there is nothing he can do about it anyway. The heavyweight champion promises to come straight at Wilder and says the fight will not last as long as Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury II.

The press conference ended with a tense, extended staredown by the two men. Photographers snapped photos while Fury mumbled words that only Wilder could hear. Deontay Wilder moved his head occasionally to the music playing in his ear. He walked away after a few minutes without saying a word to anyone.
