Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosas are both confident a week before their championship fight. The two men made themselves available for a joint interview recently, and both had interesting things to say.
Teofimo Lopez promises boxing fans that his June 19 matchup against George Kambosos will end with one punch. He says he will deliver his “one-hitter quitter” during the early stages of the boxing match.
“I’m the best at what I do,” is Teofimo’s simple answer to why he is so confident in the outcome of the fight. Lopez says he respects Kamboso’s confidence but warns, “this is not my first rodeo.”
George Kambosos Jr. is just as confident entering next Saturday’s contest for the WBO, WBA, and IBF lightweight championships. Kambosos says he came up the hard way as a boxer and scoffs at the notion a fight with Lopez will bring more pressure than he could handle. The Australian says all the pressure is on Lopez and promises fans he will leave the ring with “all the belts” once finished with his opponent.
Lopez counters by saying few fighters face the pressure he endured with his encounter against Vasily Lomenchenko. Lopez says fans, media, and the boxing network were against him in the leadup to his historic victory. The lightweight champion says there is nothing Kambosos can bring to the table that causes him to worry.
George Kambosos keeps photos of the three belts he will fight for on June 19 on his phone. He says he looks at them every day.
The war of words grew more intense between the two fighters when Teofimo Lopez said he and Kambosos are training for the same guy. He says Kambosos trains to take his belts, and he works hard to keep them. “He also told Kambosos, “you don’t bring anything to the fight other than being my mandatory.”
George Kambosos ended by expressing his appreciation for the fans who will tune in to the fight. He says the many people watching will make it more special when he defeats Teofimo Lopez.
