Josh Taylor fulfilled a lifelong dream when he defeated Jose Ramirez to become the undisputed junior welterweight champion. Taylor says the opportunity to stage his first defense of the undisputed title at home means just as much to him.
Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall will fight on December 18. The location for the fight is the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. All four of the belts Taylor won against Ramirez are up for grabs in the boxing match.
Taylor, now 18-0 with 13 knockouts, knocked Jose Ramirez down twice while earning a unanimous decision victory. The victory allowed the 30-year-old to prove he is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers competing today.
“I`ve trained for this moment all my life,” Taylor said after winning the undisputed championship. “I´ve dreamed of it so many times.”
Jack Catterall has dreams of his own. The 28-year-old Englishman is 26-0 with 13 knockouts. Catterall has waited patiently for his chance to become a champion.
Catterall first became the mandatory challenger for the WBO title in 2019. He agreed to step aside so that the Taylor-Ramirez fight could take place. Jack Catterall will not get his opportunity to chase greatness.
“It`s been a long time coming,” Catterall explains. “But now I will get my crack.”
Josh Taylor has fought all but four of his fights in the United Kingdom. The fight with Catterall will be his first in Scotland since a successful 2019 effort against Ivan Baranchyk.
“I haven`t boxed at home for over two years,” Taylor said while explaining how much the opportunity means to him. “I´m happy to go back and provide a fight for my home fans.
The biggest name on the resume of Jack Catterall to date is Ohara Davies. Josh Taylor has proven his mettle against top competition with victories over Viktor Postol and Regis Prograis.
