Gervonta Davis and Mario Barrios appeared before the press two days before their super lightweight championship battle on June 26. And if the energy between the two fighters at the press conference continues into the ring, fans are in store for an action-packed boxing match.
Things began to heat up at the press conference when the moderator mentioned the “bust him to the white meat” remark made by a Barrios team member. Barrios downplayed the words as just gym talk. But he had a different reaction when asked about a statement he made in the days leading up to the fight.
Barrios says he does not expect the fight to go the distance. He explains both he and Davis throw punches “with bad intentions” He says both fighters also look to stop their opponent.
“You know I’m coming.” were the first words uttered by Gervonta Davis in response to Barrios. Davis says he is excited about the fight, and fans will enjoy a great night of boxing on Saturday. Davis reminded the boxing world that he is a finisher and says “I will get him out of there” if I hurt him.
Mario Barrios didn’t blink. He says that Davis will learn some things when he steps into the ring with a fighter of Barrios’ size and caliber.
WBA super lightweight champion Mario Barrios is 26-0 with 17 knockouts. He will enjoy a nearly six-inch height advantage to go along with a seven-inch reach advantage in the fight.
Gervonta Davis is 24-0 with 23 knockouts. He is making his debut at the 140-pound weight limit after winning world titles in both the super featherweight and lightweight divisions.
