Top super welterweight contender Erickson Lubin feels strong just days before his fight with former champion Jeison Rosario. The boxing match is part of the Gervonta Davis-Mario Barrios undercard scheduled for June 26 at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena.
The 25-year-old Lubin is on a five-fight winning streak and anxious to show the boxing world he deserves a second chance at a world title. Lubin was just 21 years old when he challenged champion Jermell Charlo. The loss to Charlo is the only one on Erickson Lubin’s 24 fight boxing record.
“Champions come back from adversity,” Lubin explains when asked about his post-Charlo success. He says he was reaching for greatness at an early age when he chose to fight Charlo. Ericson Lubin feels the loss helped him understand himself as a fighter and has refocused him for a long career that will include a world title.
Erickson Lubin began training with coach Kevin Cunningham in Florida after his loss to Jermell Charlo. Lubin says he has improved in every possible way as a fighter because of his relationship with Cunningham.
“This has been the best training of my life,” Lubin asked forgiveness for the cliche. He says he prepared well for the contest and will show a packed crowd he is the best fighter in his division.
Jeison Rosario will also have something to prove when he steps into the ring with Erickson Lubin. Rosario defeated Julian Williams to become a unified champion two fights ago. He lost the belts to Jermell Charlo in his last outing.
“I hope Lubin brings his best,” Rosario explains. “I have the power to knock out anyone in the division.” Rosario also says his performance against Charlo was an “aberration.” He promises fans will see the version of Rosario that stopped Julian Williams en route to the unified championship.
The 26-year-old Rosario now has 20 wins against two defeats and a draw as a professional. He is also hoping Saturday’s boxing match leads to a title fight.
