Erickson Lubin showed the boxing world he is ready for another shot at a world title last Saturday night by logging the most important victory of his career. Lubin defeated former unified super welterweight champion, Jeison Rosario. The title eliminator victory solidifies Lubin’s position as the number one contender for the WBC belt.
Erickson Lubin faced considerable adversity to earning a victory against Rosario. The first two rounds were a bit of a feeling-out process before the action picked up in the third.
Lubin hurt Rosario in the third round but was unable to finish the former champion. The tables turned in the fourth round, and Rosario damaged Lubin with power punches. Rosario was also unable to stop his opponent.
Erickson Lubin hit Rosario with a body shot just over a minute into the sixth round that sent him to the canvas. The former champ made it to his feet before the count of ten. Lubin put Rosario down for the second time a few seconds later. This time, Rosario was unable to continue the fight.
Lubin was up on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage. “I want the title fight,” He said while interviewing immediately after the fight. “I want everyone at 154.”
Erickson Lubin is hoping the performance results in his second chance at winning a world title. Lubin was unsuccessful in his first bid at becoming a champion when he suffered the only loss of his career to Jermell Charlo. The number one contender feels he is more mature as a fighter at 25 years old than when he faced Charlo.
Jermall Charlo vs. Brian Castano takes place on July 17th for the undisputed super welterweight championship of the world. Erickson Lubin wants his next fight to be against the winner of the Charlo-Castano matchup.
