Devin Haney has his eyes set on a potential undisputed showdown with newly-crowned three-belt lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. But he will first have to prove he can pass the significant test Jo Jo Diaz will present Saturday night.
Devin Haney enters the match with a professional boxing record of 26-0 with 15 knockouts. Haney complained in the past that he has been unable to land fights with the big names in his division. The WBC champion is closer to getting his wish now that Diaz has agreed to fight him.
“On paper, he is my toughest test,” Haney speaks of his upcoming fight with Jo Jo Diaz. “I feel the world will give me my just due after this fight.”
“He’s in his prime and coming off his biggest win,” Haney continues his assessment of Diaz. But Haney did take exception to Diaz saying he lacks the “dog” to handle the type of pressure he will face in the fight. “He can say what he wants to say.”
Devin Haney Continues to Impress
Haney reminds the boxing world he faced the same criticism leading up to his fight with Jorge Linares. Haney passed that test, and he also showed he could fight through adversity after getting hit with a good shot from Linares. “I showed I could survive the deep waters,” Haney explains. “It was my first time being hurt.”
Devin Haney calls out other top lightweights for what he characterizes as a reluctance to fight each other. The past criticisms involved fighters like Teofimo Lopez, Gervonta Davis, and Ryan Garcia. But George Kambosos Jr. shook things up in the division last Saturday with his upset victory of former three-belt champion Teofimo Lopez.
Kambosos has expressed a desire to fight Haney for the undisputed title in Australia. But Devin Haney has been around the boxing game long enough to know better than to look past Jo Jo Diaz.
