Demetrius Andrade looking for standout performance against Jason Quigley

Demetrius Andrade says it is time for the big-name fighters in the middleweight divisions to stop waiting around for Canelo Alvarez. He says there are big fights to make in the division without the pound for pound king.

Demetrius Andrade is undefeated in his 30 professional fights. He is the current WBO champion. Despite the record and title, Andrade has been unable to earn the fights to secure his legacy in the sport.

Andrade is especially critical of Canelo Alvarez. He says the Mexican superstar had a chance to unify the middleweight division but left for the 168-pound division because it offered an easier path to undisputed glory. Canelo held three of the four middleweight belts. Andrade is the WBO titleholder.

Demetrius Andrade says he still wants to unify the middleweight division. The other titleholders in the division include Jermall Charlo, Gennady Golovkin, and Ryota Murata.

Golovking and Murata fight to unify the WBA and IBF titles on December 29. Jermall Charlo does not have a scheduled fight at this time.

Demetrius Andrade and Jason Quigley

Demetrius Andrade continues his quest to unify the division with a fight against Jason Quigley on November 19. Quigley is a 30-year-old Irishman that comes into the fight with one loss in 20 contests. The Irishman knocked out 14 previous opponents. The last time Quigley was in the ring was in May when he earned a majority decision over Shane Mosely Jr.

Jason Quigley will be launching his first world title challenge against Demetrius Andrade and is confident he is the man to derail the WBO champion’s current plan. The challenger says is ready to put on the performance of his career and dethrone his American opponent.

Quigley understands he has a tough task ahead of him. “I was very impressed by him,” The challenger remembers watching Andrade at the world championships when they were both amateurs. “But I’m here now, I’m a hungry young fighter looking to become world champion.”

The problem for Quigley is Andrade is fully intent on turning in the dominating performance he needs to land a mega fight. “I’ve been training to be destructive,” Andrade explains. The WBO middleweight champion then added, “Someone is going to stop it. Put your house on it.”
