WBO Middleweight Champion Demetrius Andrade continues to search for a match with a big-name opponent. His most recent call-out is to WBC Champion Jamall Carlo.
The history is long between Demetrius Andrade and both Charlo twins. Andrade turned down a fight with Jermell Charlo seven years ago. The WBO champion argues that it only makes sense for Jermall to fight him now since the WBC champion talks of unifying the 160-pound division.
Andrade took to Twitter to mock the excuses he says Charlo uses to avoid fights with top fighters. He “looks like a fool,” Andrade writes before reminding fans that Charlo said “Benavidez needs to be vaccinated” and “Andrade got to beat Montiel first” when presented with fights against top competitors in the past.
Jermall Charlo makes it clear that he is interested in no weight class other than 160. He also says he is the cream of the crop in the division. These facts cause people other than Andrade to openly question why his next opponent should not be one of the three other men who can lay claim to a middleweight championship.
Both Demetrius Andrade and Jermall Charlo covet a fight with pound-for-pound champ Canelo Alvarez. A boxing match against each other would gain both fighters a massive payday and unified champion status. The winner would also prove themselves more worthy of a super fight with Canelo.
Press members questioned Jermall Charlo about a possible future fight with Andrade following his recent victory against Juan Macias Montiel. Charlo called Demetrius Andrade a “horrible” fighter.
Charlo said the sanctioning bodies and television networks would make fight negotiations difficult. The takeaway from Charlo’s response is that he has no plans to face Andrade in a boxing ring anytime soon.
“Let’s unify in September.” Andrade posted on Twitter along with the hashtag #youscared.
