Caleb Plant joined in camp by Andre Ward

IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant is less than two months away from a chance at boxing history. The fighter emerging victorious from the Caleb Plant-Canelo Alvarez matchup will become the first four-belt undisputed super middleweight champion in the sport’s history.

Caleb Plant is leaving no stone unturned in preparations for the career-defining fight. The Tennessee native recently reached out to retired pound-for-pound great Andre Ward to join him in camp.

Canelo Alvarez is the favorite in the fight for a boxing public that generally considers him the current pound-for-pound king. Some boxing insiders point to Plant’s lack of big-fight experience when explaining their reason for favoring Canelo.

Many boxing experts labeled Andre Ward the best the sport had to offer before he retired in 2017. Neither Ward nor Plant has commented on the specifics of their current relationship. But, the wealth of experience Ward and his trainer, Virgil Hunter, bring to the Plant camp will no doubt help him prepare for the biggest fight of his life.

Caleb Plant and Canelo Alvarez first entered negotiations to fight on September 16. But the sides determined no deal was possible in the late stages of the process. Plant says he was a bit disappointed when the fight talks stalled. He is happy his team was able to make the fight the second time around.

Caleb Plant also makes it clear that he is not fighting Canelo for the payday. “I’m not doing this for the money, I really want my name in those history books.”

“This is an opportunity I have been wanting,” Plant explains. “I’m ready to become undisputed. Caleb Plant has this to say to fans who doubt his confidence: “I’m willing and ready to take it where it has to go to get my hand raised. But don’t be surprised if it’s easier than you think.”
