Gervonta Davis is all set to continue his path to pound-for-pound greatness when he steps into the ring with Isaac Cruz on Sunday. Davis first planned to fight Rolly Romero. But Romero withdrew from the fight due to problems outside the boxing ring.
Isaac Cruz wants the boxing world to know he is not showing up at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to play the role of replacement fighter. He plans to make the best of the career-changing opportunity and says he is the man to defeat Gervonta Davis.
“Isaac Cruz is a Mexican warrior,” Cruz says of himself. “I am going to show them what I am worth with every punch I throw.”
Gervonta Davis says the sudden opponent change did little to affect how prepared he is for the fight. “That’s the sport of boxing,” the five-time world champion shrugs at the situation. “You have to be ready for anything.”
Davis comes into the fight with Cruz with an undefeated record in 25 boxing matches. Only one man has lasted the scheduled rounds with Davis. The last time he was in the ring, Davis defeated former super lightweight champion Mario Barrios via 11th round knockout.
Gervonta Davis Ready To Put On A Show
Davis is excited to be fighting in Los Angeles and says that performing in front of his fans on Sunday will add to the event. “It’s amazing to be fighting on Sunday,” Davis voices his enthusiasm. “You have football during the day and boxing at night.”
Isaac Cruz lost once in his 23 fight boxing career. He has knocked out 15 previous opponents.
The Mexico native says he welcomes the opportunity to face an elite fighter. “Gervonta is a great fighter,” Cruz voices his respect. “He saw me fight in San Antonio, and he knows I am a better fighter than Rolando Romero.
Davis knows Cruz plans to fight with aggression. “We know his game plan, the five-time champion explains. “I just have to do what I do best. We’ll give the fans an exciting fight.”
