Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero trade fighting words before December showdown

The bad blood between Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero was on display when the two boxers took part in a press conference to promote their upcoming December 5 showdown. The trash-talking included promises by both men to end the fight by rendering their opponent unconscious.

Most fans and experts agree that the Davis-Romero clash is unlikely to go the distance. Gervonta Davis is 25-0 as a professional fighter. Only one opponent has lasted until the final bell against Davis.

Rolly Romero has also shown impressive power in previous fights. His record is 14-0 coming into the boxing match with Davis. Romero has stopped 12 of his 14 opponents.

“I’m going to knock Gervonta the fuck out,” Rolly spoke loudly in Davis’ direction. “I hope you hear that.”

The bad blood between Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero seems to stem from a 2017 sparring match that never happened. Rolly says that Davis ducked the sparring session because he knew he would lose. Gervonta Davis denies this claim from his next opponent.

“Rolly is just here to talk,” Gervonta seemed unimpressed with Romero’s banter. “He’s scared. I’m not here to talk. I’m here to fight.”

Both fighters possess impressive knockout percentages. But it is hard not to notice that Gervonta Davis has a more impressive list of names on his resume. Rolly Romero stopped Avery Sparrow and Anthony Yigit in his last two outings. Davis posted knockout victories over big-named fighters like Leo Santa Cruz, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jose Pedraza, and Mario Barrios.

“He’s going to see the difference,” Gervonta Davis explains. “He hasn’t fought anybody like me.”

Romero is just as confident and says Davis has looked unimpressive in his last few outings. “He gets touched up by every opponent he faces.” Romero says, “Leo Santa Cruz was beating him up, and Barrios was getting him too.”

“I was the one who had to force this fight,” Rolly Romero explains. “He’s made a career out of fighting 126 pounders.”

The fact is Gervonta Davis has beaten quality opponents at weights ranging from 126 to 140. Davis made his most important point by promising, “I’m going to do the talking in the ring on December 5.
