Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder addressed the boxing media via a virtual press conference on Wednesday. As usual, “The Bronze Bomber” had some interesting things to say.
Deontay Wilder has spent much of the last twenty months seeking and then preparing for a third fight with current WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. The boxing match is now less than a month away. And avenging the only loss of his professional career dominates much of Wilder’s conversation.
“I want payback in blood,” Wilder stated. “I will get my revenge.”
Wilder assures fans that the delays have not hampered his preparations. He believes that he only grows stronger as the time between his loss to Fury and the trilogy fight passes.
“I feel amazing,” Wilder describes both his mental and physical state as the fight approaches. “The more time that’s passed, we’ve been able to work on little things and perfect them.”
Deontay Wilder gives a lot of credit to his new trainer Malik Scott. Wilder and Scott met years ago while Scott was still an active fighter. The two men sparred while Wilder prepared for a fight.
“We clicked right away,” Wilder reflects on the beginning of his relationship with Scott. “We’ve formed a brotherhood.”
Deontay Wilder believes the rapport between himself and Malik Scott permeates his entire camp. “I have so much love around me in this camp,” Wilder explains. “I’m not dwelling on anything negative.”
Deontay Wilder says he is having fun again. He feels he is now entering the second phase of his boxing career.
“I had fun winning and defending the title for five years,” Wilder reflects on his past accomplishments. “Things happen for a reason. My whole team understands everything that has happened, and we’re looking forward.”
Deontay Wilder thanks fans and supporters who reached out to him in support during the toughest moments of his career. “I’ve received so many messages,” Wilder says. “Now we’re back for redemption and retaliation. The BombSquad is back!”
