Ryan Garcia has never been shy about expressing his opinions regarding potential opponents on social media. He recently told fans he has no doubt he would beat four-division champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. Ryan says that Tank’s promoter, Floyd Mayweather, would never allow the fight to happen.
“I do beat Davis,” Ryan Garcia made his first point clear to his social media following. Garcia grew more critical of Tank Davis when he said the champion boxer “never did want to fight anyone tough.”
Ryan also used his social media platform to remind the boxing world that Floyd Mayweather prefers to arrange in-house fights for Gervonta Davis. “He’s not going to fight anybody outside of Mayweather Promotions is what Floyd said.”
The last time Ryan Garcia talked inside the boxing ring was in a January fight with Luke Campbell. The seventh-round TKO victory earned Garcia the WBC interim world lightweight title. Garcia also became the mandatory challenger for the primary belt held by Devin Haney.
Ryan Garcia decided against the fight with Haney and said he would rather face Davis. But the Gervonta Davis fight never materialized.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe disagrees with the narrative pushed by Garcia that the company is unwilling to pit Tank against him. Ellerbe says the Davis camp reached out to Garcia’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, in March. Ellerbe says Golden Boy informed him that Garcia had other opponents in mind and would be fighting soon.
Ryan Garcia scheduled a fight with Javier Fortuna for July 9. However, Garcia canceled the boxing match to tend to mental health issues. King Ryan told fans he would return to the ring soon a short time later. But the 23-year-old boxer has yet to name an opponent or set a date for his return.
