Australian super welterweight Tim Tszyu is happy with a decision from the WBO to make him the mandatory challenger for the belt held by Brian Castano. “It´s hunting season,” was the response from Tszyu upon learning of the decision.
Tim Tszyu is undefeated in 19 professional fights. Tszyu has 15 knockouts under his belt, including an eighth-round stoppage of former world champion Jeff Horn.
Brian Castano is a native of Argentina. The WBO champion has not lost in his 19 fight pro career but has fought to two draws. The last time Castano was in a boxing ring, he challenged Jermell Charlo for the undisputed title. The result was one of the two draws on his record.
The WBO did not discuss when Tszyu might be able to fight Castano. The date of the fight will depend on whether or not Castano can land a rematch with Charlo. But Tszyu is satisfied for now with knowing he is next in line for a WBO super welterweight title fight.
“I´ve been fighting in big fights at home in Australia,” Tszyu explains. “The world has been watching. Now we are at a very exciting time.”
Tim Tszyu says he is willing to fight for the title in the United States but would prefer to do it at home. “I think the Aussie fans deserve a fight like this.”
Tszyu also feels Castano is one of the big names in the division who has avoided his calls for a fight. “There is no more running now,” Tszyu declares. “He is the champion, and now I´m the mandatory.”
Tim Tszyu also has a few choice words for three-belt champion Jermell Charlo. “Charlo is arrogant,” Australia´s top super welterweight begins. “He has things to say about where I fight in the mix. It is clear where I am now.”
Tim Tszyu plans to fight in November, regardless of how the negotiations with Castano develop. Former champion Tony Harrison is one likely opponent.
