Caleb Plant ready for Canelo Alvarez

Caleb Plant is not very interested in the congratulations he is receiving for landing the Canelo Alvarez fight. Plant says that scheduling the boxing match is no victory. He plans to defeat Canelo Alvarez when the two meet in Las Vegas on November 6 for the undisputed super middleweight championship.

Plant gave a simple answer to a reporter asking him why he likes his chances in the fight: “I like my chances in any fight.”

Caleb Plant knows Canelo is favored among fans and boxing insiders to beat him. One reason is that some boxing fans feel Plant has not fought against many top fighters in his career.

“He´s been around for a long time, and he´s accomplished a lot,” Plant says of Canelo. “But within his first 30 fights, I was probably fighting better competition in the amateurs.”

“Everybody I ever fought had more fights than me,” Plant continues. “Experience is a factor but it is not the determining factor.”

Caleb Plant and Canelo Alvarez first negotiated to fight in September. Canelo searched for other opponents when negotiations with Plant broke down. But when no other fighters made themselves available, he returned to the bargaining table, and the two camps agreed on a November fight date.

Plant expressed frustration with people who suggested he was trying to avoid a fight date with Canelo Alvarez when the first round of talks stalled.

“Whether you believe I am going to win or not, you know the type of mentality I have,” Plant reminded media members. “I wasn´t ducking or hiding.”

Caleb Plant says he was more disappointed than anyone when he and Canelo couldn´t secure a fight the first time around. “I had already brought people out for camp and training,” Plant says. “I was disappointed, this is an opportunity I´ve been asking for. I am happy it came back around.”
