Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos fight

The much-anticipated boxing match between unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez and challenger George Kambosos Jr. is postponed after Lopez tested positive for the Covid 19 virus. The fight, originally scheduled for Saturday, is now set to happen on August 14.

Triller representative Ryan Kavanaugh confirms the positive test and the fight postponement. Kavanaugh expects undercard matches to also move to August.

The postponement will likely affect plans for having Teofimo Lopez compete in an ESPN pay-per-view event later this year. Lopez recently signed a deal that ensures he remains with promoter Bob Arum and Top Rank Boxing through at least 2023. His team was eyeing October 2 for a potential pay-per-view showdown with an unnamed opponent. It is difficult to foresee the lightweight champion fighting in October now that the Kambosos fight will not happen until August.

Fight fans still have several top-notching boxing contests to look forward to on June 19th. Fights include Jermall Charlo vs. Juan Montiel, Nayoe Inoue vs. Michael Dasmarinas, and Jamie Munguia vs. Kamil Szeremeta.
